We are pleased to announce the representation of Los Angeles-based artist John Zabawa. His solo exhibition at Francis Gallery – his first in the UK – will launch digitally next month.

This series by Romy Northover is the result of a personal journey, making and interacting with an everyday object, and investigating the refractive, reflective and transmissive properties of glass. By slightly amplifying the objects’ proportions, Northover subtly alters what is perceived and felt, offering the possibility to experience something familiar with greater nuance and refinement.

In support of the publication of JB Blunk, the first monograph dedicated to the life and work of the artist, Francis Gallery is launching a sale of 10 one-off prints to be sold in tandem with the book, with all proceeds going to the JB Blunk Estate. The prints are exclusive to Francis Gallery, and present a selection of archival images from the monograph. The series is printed on washi paper, in recognition of the artist’s relationship with Japan, where he studied under Bizen ware master Toyo Kaneshige. The delicate, slightly translucent paper serves to enhance the elemental beauty of Blunk’s sculptures.

Ekun Richard has created a playlist to accompany his solo show, Say Your Words to the Sun, at Francis Gallery.

For his first solo show at Francis Gallery, titled Resonant Line, London-based artist Liam Stevens creates a sense of rhythm with repeated lines and forms, while drawing equal attention to the negative space around them. Featuring layered pigment washes with pencil on canvas, constructed reliefs, and a selection of drawing studies, his work is inspired by the repeating structures he identifies in natural and urban landscapes, as well as his connection to music, which often takes a visual form. In his canvas compositions, subtle vertical grids act as a regular tempo, while groups of horizontal lines create a sense of movement, progressively stepping out of phase with the grid.

Rosemarie Auberson has collaborated with ceramic artist Juliette Teste to produce a collection of ceramic pieces titled Passe Avant Minuit, exhibited at 0fr Gallery, Paris in November 2019. Adopting a mindset of open experimentation, free from any imposed direction or meaning, the partnership resulted in a playful process of creation, with Auberson painting on the ceramic forms created by Teste.

Northover created this work in response to its location - a modernist house in Texas near the Mexican border - amidst the conversations about building a wall between the US and Mexico. The installation explores positioning and the weight of placement, as it defines borders both visible and invisible. The rocks, collected from the surrounding landscape, hold the knowledge of millennia; positioned against the modernist structure of the house, between light and dark, they describe the tension between oppositions.
