Rosemarie Auberson
Rosemarie Auberson is a painter based in Paris. Her works are informed by images and photographs, and the non-literal memories of form and shape, drawn from her own interpretation of real elements. “Accidents and mistakes often shape my work,” she says. “The act of painting itself has its own power, and the perpetual tension between decision-making, failure, control, and accident can take me somewhere unexpected.”
Auberson was born in Lausanne, on the shore of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, and studied Applied Arts at ESAA Duperré in Paris, France. She has lived and worked in Paris as an art director and artist ever since. Francis is the first space to exhibit her work in the United Kingdom.
Auberson is inspired by the entire visual world, particularly the colours she finds in nature, travel, and film, and the physicality and materiality of the paintings themselves. Her compositions are intentionally open, an invitation to the viewer to become an active participant in their resolution. “I stop my paintings when something is still missing, when they are not completely perfect,” she says. “I hope that through my work, people can experience the beauty I find in fragility and imperfection, which have an inherent strength of their own.”
Accidents and mistakes often shape my work... The act of painting itself has its own power, and the perpetual tension between decision-making, failure, control, and accident can take me somewhere unexpected.

Passe Avant Minuit

Adopting a mindset of open experimentation, free from any imposed direction or meaning, the partnership resulted in a playful process of creation, with Auberson painting on the ceramic forms created by Teste.
