Nneka Uzoigwe
Nneka Uzoigwe is trained in the classical atelier tradition, with a practice rooted in close observation of still life and the physical world. Based in London, she builds her paintings through layers of glaze and dense impasto — a material rigor inherited from her training at London Fine Art Studios — working from life to conjure scenes in which everyday objects anchor more intuitive, poetic compositions. Still life remains central to her process, serving as a framework for narrative and symbolic imagery rather than straightforward depiction. Her paintings move between perception and invention, transforming ordinary experience into visual fiction and myth.
This tension between the seen and the imagined runs through her wider oeuvre, which explores introspection and the stories embedded in domestic life. Each work asks the viewer to look closely — at texture, light, the residue of process — while gesturing toward something beyond the objects themselves.
Uzoigwe's work has shown widely across the UK, including solo presentations at Panter & Hall and Green & Stone Gallery in London, alongside group exhibitions at the Mall Galleries, Watts Gallery, and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. She has held residencies at Watts Gallery and the National Army Museum, with recognition including the RP Award from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the De Laszlo Foundation Award.
Through this body of work, Uzoigwe holds classical technique and contemporary storytelling in close proximity — continually making room for invention.
